What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Engineer position at Indigo?
As an Lv2 Field Engineer at Indigo, you’ll lead deployment and maintenance tasks across telecoms networks. You'll apply advanced technical skills and mentor junior engineers, ensuring high-quality service delivery, proactive fault management, and adherence to engineering best practices. You’ll integrate hands‑on work with strategic oversight to drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-line maintenance support and handle installations/commissioning across projects and maintenance environments
- Respond promptly to interventions, ensuring Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met
- Deliver out-of-hours on-call coverage per rota
- Report progress and on-site issues to Indigo GSD, Line Manager, and Project Managers
- Lead fault-finding and resolve complex technical issues, liaising with NOC teams
- Set field quality standards, supervise installations, and mentor junior engineers
- Install and test hardware: metalwork, racks, fibre/copper cabling, power.
- Conduct OTDR, Ethernet, OSA testing and electrical continuity measurements
- Manage Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) and conduct quality audits
- Produce comprehensive project documentation and support project management tasks
- Ensure compliance with HSE and SVSA protocols
- Own project delivery, escalate issues, and drive technical excellence
About You
- Demonstrable hands-on experience in telecoms infrastructure, network commissioning and structured cabling (PDH/SDH/DWDM, fibre optics, IP networking)
- Deep technical proficiency with Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, Juniper, Cisco equipment
- Skilled with test gear, including OTDR, Ethernet/OSA testers
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with proven project accountability
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including report writing
- Able to manage workload flexibly, meet SLAs, and thrive in dynamic environments
- Full, valid driver’s licence
