Community Manager, Minneapolis

Indie Square
Minneapolis, MN Full Time
POSTED ON 10/23/2026

About Indie Square

Launched in Salt Lake City in 2024, Indie Square is a nonprofit coworking space and collaborative ecosystem providing subsidized, high-quality workspace and resources to grassroots organizations. In 2026, we expanded to Minneapolis, acquiring a historic campus at 2118 Blaisdell Avenue.

Our Twin Cities launch is a collaborative effort with founding partners like T.O.N.E. U.P. (re-entry and leadership development) and Beyond the Bark (animal rescue). Uniquely, our Minneapolis campus integrates mission-driven nonprofit office spaces, event & meeting venues, and animal rescue.

Position Overview

We are seeking an entrepreneurial, mission-driven Community Manager to serve as the founding operational leader for our Twin Cities expansion.

Initially, you will be the primary on-site builder and sole operator, working closely with executive leadership to bring the campus online. You will manage facility setup, vendor deployments, and building systems while welcoming our first cohort of nonprofit tenants.

Our intentional Leadership Runway

We expect to promote the founding Community Manager to City Director as the campus activates, occupancy milestones are met, and operations stabilize. In that role, you will transition to broad regional leadership, building a local team and steering citywide fundraising and partnerships.

Reports To: Executive Director (Salt Lake City, UT)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Location: 2118 Blaisdell Ave, Minneapolis, Minnesota — On-Site

Compensation: $50,000- $60,000/year (DOE)

Benefits: [To Be Determined]

Target Start Date: January, 2027

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Growth: Design, establish, and document initial operating systems and workflows, adapting Utah’s success to Minnesota. Serve as the primary local leader for members and operations.
  • Member & Community Relations: Nurture relationships with member nonprofits to foster collaboration. Represent Indie Square at local civic events and serve as the primary partner liaison (including T.O.N.E. U.P. and Beyond the Bark).
  • Property Management: Oversee facilities maintenance, vendor relationships, and building systems. Partner with Beyond the Bark to ensure animal spaces meet safety and sanitation standards.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage the Minneapolis annual operating budget in partnership with the Executive Director.
  • Operational Standards: Adapt national Indie Square standards to the local community, ensuring consistency in branding, culture, and member experience.

Who is the ideal candidate?

We are looking for a deeply passionate, entrepreneurial leader who is genuinely excited about the Twin Cities nonprofit sector. You thrive in dynamic, ever-changing environments and bring the adaptability needed to navigate flexible hours and diverse, day-to-day challenges. With natural community-building and leadership skills, you can connect with diverse populations, cultivate meaningful relationships with local grassroots organizations, and foster an inclusive, collaborative space for all members.

You are a resourceful, hands-on builder with a practical, "can-do" mindset for site operations. You are equally comfortable strategizing long-term growth and building a local team as you are rolling up your sleeves to handle basic facility maintenance, troubleshoot tech issues, or research solutions on the fly. Whether engaging with community leaders or ensuring the physical building runs smoothly, you bring enthusiasm, versatility, and dedication to establishing Indie Square as a premier nonprofit hub.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of professional experience, with a track record in startup environments, program launches, building operations, or hospitality/coworking.
  • Deep knowledge of and connection to the Twin Cities nonprofit sector is highly preferred.
  • Possess an entrepreneurial "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude—as comfortable strategizing long-term growth as you are troubleshooting a hardware issue, handling light maintenance, or rearranging event furniture.
  • Strong financial literacy (budget management), excellent communication, and natural community-building skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.

Physical & Environment Considerations

Because we are on an active, multi-level historic campus that houses animal programs, you must be comfortable regularly climbing stairs, traversing the grounds, working around dogs and cats, and occasionally lifting/moving up to 40 lbs (e.g., event setup, furniture assembly).

Equal Employment Opportunity & Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Statement

Indie Square is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. We welcome and encourage applicants of all backgrounds and abilities. In accordance with the ADA, we actively engage in collaborative processes to provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals. If you need an accommodation at any point in the application or interview process, please let us know.
