Medical Imaging Physicist – Clinical Assistant Professor

Be part of our exciting growth! The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Indiana University School of Medicine is proud to announce the formation of our new clinical division, Medical Imaging Physics (MIP). This expansion has created an exceptional opportunity for a talented and motivated Clinical Medical Imaging Physicist to join our dynamic team of six medical physicists and one administrative coordinator.

Position: Clinical Medical Imaging Physicist – Clinical Assistant Professor

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana (with occasional travel throughout the state)

As a key faculty member of our MIP division, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in diagnostic imaging across our statewide network. This is a clinical position with a strong emphasis on supporting and participating in advanced technology translation, a critical role for the diagnostic physicist.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Performing comprehensive Quality Control (QC) physics testing for all diagnostic imaging modalities, including mammography, to meet the requirements of the American College of Radiology, The Joint Commission, and the State of Indiana Department of Health.
  • Developing and optimizing imaging protocols.
  • Consulting with physicians and technologists on complex clinical cases.
  • Supporting the clinical service line across Indiana University Health hospitals and clinics throughout the entire state of Indiana, which may require occasional travel up to 1.5 hours away.
  • Participating in a pool of physicists with on-call hours and testing conducted on nights and weekends to support clinical operations.
  • Engaging in educational activities for radiology residents, physicians, and technologists.
  • Actively participating in and supporting advanced technology translation in the clinic. We have current needs for expertise in 3D dosimetric characterization of emerging radionuclide therapies (Lu-177, Y-90), and clinical utilization and optimization of photon-counting CT and whole-body PET in a state-of-the-art hospital facility set to open in 2027.

Our Culture:

Our culture is defined by a relentless, customer-driven focus. We operate as consultative partners to our clinical colleagues—the radiologists, technologists, and administrators we support. Our mission is to build lasting relationships founded on trust, which we earn through professional integrity, transparent communication, and a commitment to follow-through.

We are dedicated to being exceptionally accessible and responsive, moving beyond a transactional service model to proactively anticipate clinical needs and engineer solutions that advance patient care. We are building a dynamic, merit-based team where hard work, expertise, and a shared passion for empowering our clinical partners are the hallmarks of our success.
