The Department of Computer Science at Indiana University Bloomington is seeking highly motivated PhD students to join our research team starting in Spring 2027.
We are looking for passionate candidates interested in pushing the boundaries of physical AI, robotic manipulation, and tactile intelligence.
Research Focus AreasWe are specifically seeking candidates with background, experience, or strong research interest in:
- Robotic Grasping & Manipulation
- Novel Hand & Gripper Design (Compliant mechanisms, variable stiffness, dexterous end-effectors)
- Vision-Based Force & Tactile Sensing / Learning (Multimodal perception, tactile/force feedback for AI control)
- Strong background in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with mechanical design, rapid prototyping, computer vision, machine learning, or robot control frameworks (ROS2, C , Python, Matlab, etc.).
- Curiosity, self-drive, and a desire to publish in top-tier robotics venues.
