Health Promotion at IU-Bloomington supports student success through a holistic and integrated approach to wellbeing. Health Promotion provides a broad range of prevention, education, and intervention services grounded in evidence-based practices, assessment, and evaluation. Core service areas include Substance Use Intervention Services, a Collegiate Recovery Community, Nutrition Services, and Health Education and Outreach, which offers workshops on topics such as mental health, sexual health education, hazing prevention, and alcohol and other drugs prevention. Together, these programs advance student wellbeing and contribute to a healthier, more thriving campus community.

Part-Time Student Recovery Brews Outreach Assistant, housed within the Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC), serves as a student advocate for recovery awareness, wellness, and connection on campus. In this role, the part-time student assistant helps lead a mobile, interactive outreach program funded by the State Opioid Response (SOR) grant, using a branded coffee bike to engage students in high-traffic campus spaces. Through outreach, conversation, and education, the intern helps reduce stigma surrounding addiction, shares recovery-centered messaging, and connects students with supportive resources and opportunities for involvement.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with CRC staff and students to plan, promote, and implement Recovery Brews outreach events, including event themes, logistics, and engagement strategies.
  • Leads Recovery Brews coffee bike pop-up events at rotating high-traffic campus locations.
  • Serves nitro and regular cold brew coffee in a professional, welcoming, and student-centered manner during outreach events.
  • Engages students in meaningful conversation about recovery, wellness, and belonging through peer-to-peer outreach, conversation starters, and interactive prompts.
  • Provides recovery-centered education that helps reduce stigma and increase awareness of addiction, recovery, and allyship.
  • Shares educational materials, myth-busting information, and recovery ally tips to promote a more recovery-supportive campus culture.
  • Connects students to CRC programs, Recovery Ally training, and other relevant campus resources through outreach and referral.
  • Assists with student sign-ups, tabling engagement, and outreach follow-up related to CRC involvement and recovery education opportunities.
  • Tracks outreach metrics such as event attendance, student engagement, resource distribution, and participation in educational activities.
  • Supports the evaluation of outreach efforts by administering post-event surveys and collecting feedback to assess changes in awareness and attitudes related to recovery.
  • Represents the Collegiate Recovery Community and IU Bloomington in a professional manner during all outreach activities and student interactions.
  • Collaborates with professional staff, student leaders, and campus partners to support program goals and strengthen recovery-centered outreach initiatives.
  • Participates in regular team meetings, training, and supervision to support professional development and program effectiveness.

Required

  • Currently enrolled student at Indiana University Bloomington.

  • Experience in peer led positions.

  • Excellent organizational skills to manage mobile logistics
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills to engage with the general student body
  • Ability to maintain a professional and welcoming presence while representing CRC.

This position requires move around for the duration of pop-up events (2-3 hours) and the ability to maneuver a mobile coffee bike to various campus locations. Events take place outdoors and are subject to weather conditions.
