Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Performs building inspections to ensure compliance with all State of Indiana adopted fire codes.
- May travel to other campuses to provide support to other Loss Control Inspectors.
- Performs building inspections to ensure compliance with all state of Indiana adopted fire, building codes, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards; resolves code issues during construction phase, and maintenance issues.
- Performs pre-fire planning, and interprets blueprints for new construction projects to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
- Conducts training classes for students, faculty, and staff on fire prevention subjects when requested; maintains records of inspection, training, and certification.
- Responds to emergency alarms on campus; provides fire alarm and suppression system support in coordination with responding emergency crews.
- May provide guidance to fire alarm technicians and/or less experienced support staff; may be required to occasionally travel to other campuses to provide additional support for loss control investigation efforts.
EDUCATION
Required
- Associate's degree.
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in fire science, public safety, or related field).
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of building code inspection/enforcement and/or fire safety experience.
Required
- Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.
- Indiana Fire Inspector I and II Certifications upon date of hire.
