FINANCE ADMINISTRATION & BUDGE (BL-BAP-IUBLA)

The Office of Finance, Administration and Budget (FAB) supports fiscal management, budgeting, analytics, and strategic planning for IU Bloomington. Collaborating with senior leadership and campus partners, FAB aligns annual budgets with forecasts, offers predictive insights, and identifies opportunities and risks to inform strategic decisions.

This position provides financial expertise for units within Campus Leadership in the Office of Finance, Administration and Budget (FAB). The role is responsible for providing financial information, transactional support, and account reconciliation, and for delivering the data, processes, and guidance needed to ensure compliance with Indiana University (IU) and Indiana University Foundation (IUF) policies.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Prepares ad hoc and scheduled analyses of IU and IUF financial activity, comparing current activity to prior years and to budget.
  • Investigates and explains variances, identifies trends, and works to understand the activity underlying the numbers.
  • Synthesizes data into a clear narrative that is meaningful to unit leaders so they can respond and make decisions about the allocation of resources.
  • Regularly explains financial concepts to non-financial employees, conveying what a number means and not just what it is.
  • Supports the organization's financial transaction processing.
  • Reviews requested transactions for compliance with applicable policy.
  • Provides the information needed to request transaction processing through Shared Services.
  • Reviews financial statements and makes adjusting entries in the Kuali Financial System (KFS) to both actual and budget data.
  • Reconciles financial statements on a timely basis.
  • Stays knowledgeable about existing and emerging tools including automation and AI capabilities that improve analysis, reporting, and documentation as well as financial policies and processes.
  • Participates, as appropriate, in the review of new policies and processes and provides feedback.
  • Drafts documentation regarding policies and processes to share with employees in the units served. Provides follow-up communication and training as necessary.

General Responsibilities

  • Following established procedures, performs periodic fiscal analysis of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flows and compiles trends to guide financial decisions.
  • Provides general financial analysis support using measures such as past financial performance, economic conditions, price, yield, stability, and investment risk.
  • Interprets fiscal policies and acts as a resource to department.
  • May serve as fiscal delegate for department accounts.
  • Presents findings using tools such as spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and technical reports.

This position is posted at the Core Level but may be filled at the Career Level depending on the candidate's qualifications. Although they will be similar, the duties and responsibilities may differ if filled at the higher rank. Please see the qualifications for each level listed below.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
