Position Details
Title Assistant Professor of Spanish Appointment Status Tenure Track Department IU South Bend World Languages Location South Bend Position Summary The Department of World Language Studies at Indiana University South Bend is currently seeking qualified applicants for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor in Spanish with a specialization in Latin American Literature or Spanish Applied Linguistics, beginning August 1, 2027.
The successful candidate will contribute to our academic mission through teaching, scholarship, and service. The full-time load (100% FTE) is 12 credit hours (typically four courses) each fall and spring semester, with one course reassigned time for scholarly and creative activities following university & campus policies. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester, contribute to service, and have an active scholarship program. Faculty may be required to teach online and nonstandard hours. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence status is required for tenure. Review of applications will begin on November 1st. The search will remain open until the position is filled.

Required: Ph.D. in Spanish or equivalent; ABD candidates will be considered if a Ph.D. will be in hand by the time of appointment. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. Evidence of innovative and effective Spanish language teaching. Evidence of an active research agenda in the field of specialization.
Preferred: Spanish for Heritage Speakers. Experience and / or interest in High-Impact educational practices such as Internships, Study Abroad and Community-engaged Teaching and Learning. Demonstrated experience in mentoring students, including guiding involvement in extracurricular activities, such as the advising of student clubs.
