Description
The Part-Time Teacher’s Aide/Behavioral Interventionist is primarily responsible for assisting teachers in day-to-day functions along with assisting, supporting, and working with youth to target, teach, and provide guidance with disruptive behaviors.
Essential Functions

- Work closely with all teachers and assist with day-to-day functions in the classroom.
- Responsible for administrating an individualized program for students keyed to specific needs identified through careful diagnostics.
- Work with students who exhibit difficulties in school subjects related to reading comprehension and fluency.
- Supervise students during lunch and in transitions.
- Substitute for teachers who are absent.
- Monitor and teach to student behavior using the Teaching-Family Model.
- Perceive opportunities to teach to appropriate and inappropriate behaviors in a school setting.
- Apply principles of behavior in order to increase positive student behavior and decrease negative student behavior.
- Verbally deescalate student behaviors which may include physical aggression verbal aggression property damage and AWOL or elopement.
- Facilitate the implementation and provide continuity for BSP strategies in the school setting.
- Perform functional analysis when needed in regards to problematic student behavior.

Qualifications
- Must be at least 21.
- Work experience with behaviorally challenging students is preferred.
- Positive attitude and be student-oriented in their approach toward discipline and consequences.
- Able to work as a team with all student care-givers.
- Follow the practices, philosophy and mission of James E Davis School.
- Have strong oral and written communication skills.
- Have operational knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn new programs as required.
- Proficient command of the English language is required in order to follow the Teaching Family Model that teaches effective verbal communication with youth.
- Able to work with behaviorally challenged clients in a family-style treatment setting.
- Assertive, flexible, team-oriented, and ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Must be dependable regarding work schedule and punctuality.
- Ability to pass a drug screen and extensive criminal background check.
- Awareness and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of IUMCH’s youth.
