What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Intern (Communications & Outreach) position at Indiana Statewide Independent Living Council?
The intern will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, community outreach, and disability advocacy while working collaboratively with INSILC staff and stakeholders.
Key Functions & Responsibilities
• Develop and draft content for blogs, newsletters, and social media platforms.
• Assist in planning and promoting INSILC events, including Town Halls, Public Meetings, and SPIL feedback sessions.
• Create accessible and engaging outreach materials to increase community participation.
• Support social media management, including scheduling posts and monitoring engagement.
• Assist with outreach efforts to stakeholders, partners, and community members.
• Participate in team meetings and occasional in-office planning sessions.
• Provide general support for communications and outreach initiatives as needed.
Preferred Candidate Qualifications
• Interest in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit work, or disability advocacy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram).
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Creativity and attention to detail.
• Basic knowledge of or interest in the Independent Living philosophy is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
• Current student or recent graduate (high school, undergraduate, or graduate level).
• Commitment to working with people with diverse disabilities.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work remotely with occasional in-person meetings.
Working Conditions
• Part-time internship (10 hours per week).
• Primarily remote work with occasional in-office meetings.
• Flexible scheduling within agreed-upon hours.
• Duration: Summer term (dates flexible based on candidate availability).
Compensation
$18.00 per hour
