About the Indiana Management Performance Hub (MPH)

The Management Performance Hub provides analytics solutions tailored to address complex management and policy questions, enabling improved outcomes for Hoosiers. We partner with state agencies to use data in innovative ways and facilitate data-driven decision-making and data-informed policymaking.

  

Role Overview:

The Data Architect contributes to the design and implementation of enterprise data architecture with a strong emphasis on the application of data governance frameworks such as DCAM and DMBOK in data management practices. The Data Architect ensures the integrity, integration, and stewardship of organizational data while helping shape policies, standards, and procedures that promote consistent data management practices. You will oversee complex data requirements, evaluate emerging technologies, and apply deep technical knowledge across cloud-based solutions, ETL pipelines, data warehousing, and integration workflows. You will partner with business and technical teams to define requirements, develop scalable solutions, and contribute toward long-term data strategy for the state of Indiana while providing leadership, oversight, and direction on enterprise data initiatives. 

 

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $79,118 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement data architecture solutions that align with business objectives and technical requirements.
  • Monitor the standards, procedures, integrity and integration of data.
  • Create and manage integration processes, including ETL workflows to move and transform data across systems.
  • Consult with and make recommendations to business and technical groups at all levels to define data requirements, evaluate data technology needs and formulate solutions.
  • Analyze data needs and requirements of existing and proposed systems and develop technical, structural and organizational designs and specifications.
  • Evaluate technology and products to determine the feasibility of adding to agency standards.
  • Develop work plans for assigned projects and supervises their execution.
  • Provide guidance and review the work of team members on special projects.
  • Identify and explore the potential strategies for long-term planning implementation.
  • Serve as project lead for software products associated with data.
  • Work with and provides guidance to information systems personnel or user agencies for maximum utilization of the agency data.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

  • Thorough knowledge of computer hardware/software capabilities and configurations.
  • Thorough knowledge of database software, database definition languages, data dictionaries, computer programming and testing of programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of data communications, connectivity and agency used operating systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of data warehouse architecture and standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of the most recent technical developments in the data management field.
  • Ability to read and understand complicated technical manuals and perform logic analysis.
  • Ability to apply theories, principles and methodologies to existing computer or database software.
  • Ability to design complex data architectures to support the use of agency data.
  • Ability to guide and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

A degree is not required. However, at least 7+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
