Position Summary
The Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, controls, and equipment throughout the facility. This role plays a key part in minimizing downtime, ensuring a safe working environment, and supporting production goals. Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, motors, drives, PLCs, and control panels on production equipment
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Install and wire new equipment, machinery, and control systems in accordance with electrical codes
- Troubleshoot and program/adjust PLCs, VFDs, and other automated control systems
- Respond quickly and effectively to equipment breakdowns to minimize production impact
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventory
- Mentor and machine operators and production staff on basic electrical safety and equipment operation
- Serve as a go-to resource and informal leader on the maintenance floor, setting a strong example of work ethic, safety, and professionalism
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and management teams to identify and resolve recurring issues
- Follow and enforce all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and arc flash procedures
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency
- Respond to emergency maintenance calls and work overtime, including weekends as needed
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of an electrical apprenticeship, technical/trade school program, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 3 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment (wood products, sawmill, or similar heavy industrial setting a plus)
- Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and industrial safety standards
- Experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar), VFDs, motor controls, and industrial automation
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Proficiency with hand tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent certification
- Experience with dust collection systems, kilns, or wood processing equipment
- Familiarity with HMI programming and industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet)
- Previous experience in a lead or supervisory maintenance role

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

- Must be willing and able to work overtime, including weekends, as production needs require
