Duties
- Greet patients warmly and assist with check-in and check-out procedures using various Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, and Eaglesoft.
- Verify insurance coverage, process payments, and handle collections related to medical billing and CPT coding.
- Schedule appointments efficiently using medical scheduling software and coordinate with providers to optimize clinic flow.
- Review and update medical records accurately, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and proper documentation review practices.
- Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette, answer inquiries, and direct calls appropriately.
- Assist with intake procedures, including collecting patient information and updating health histories with relevant medical terminology.
- Support office management tasks such as filing, maintaining medical records, handling correspondence, and organizing clinic documentation.
- Verify insurance benefits for Medicare and other payers while ensuring accurate ICD-9/ICD-10 coding for diagnoses.
- Maintain a clean and organized front desk area to promote a welcoming environment for patients and visitors.
Experience
- Prior clinic or medical office experience is highly preferred, especially in dental or hospital settings.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical billing processes.
- Experience with insurance verification procedures including Medicare claims processing.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel), typing (10-key), and familiarity with health information management software like Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively serve diverse patient populations.
- Exceptional customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette and clerical experience in a busy office environment.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
