What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scale House Crew Leader position at Indian River County Board of County Commissioners?
Performs a variety of Scale house duties and customer service-related work at the Indian River County Landfill, reporting directly to the SWDD Managing Director and/or Assistant Managing Director.
- Responsible for overseeing the Scale house operations and staff.
- Performs responsible clerical and record-keeping duties, weighing vehicles at the landfill using a computer-operated scale system, determines appropriate rates and fees, accepts payments, processes charge transactions, and issues receipts.
- Oversee assessing all areas of penalty charges for uncovered loads, screening of incoming waste for prohibited materials such as medical waste, or other special waste, and notifying staff of suspect loads for inspection.
- Oversees accountability and accuracy in reconciling receipts.
- Assist and monitor unattended terminal customer transactions for accuracy.
- Assist staff with elevated customer-related questions.
- Ability to solve customers’ concerns in a friendly manner with excellent verbal communication.
- Responsible for scheduling staff necessary to cover the daily operations of the scale house. Will be capable of covering shifts due to vacation, sickness, or emergencies, etc. and cover daily lunches.
- Oversees processing of customer daily Scale house transactions, accepts and reviews applications for new accounts.
- Oversee cash, checks, credit card, and charge account reconciliation, daily balancing, and deposits.
- Follow and implement the Scale house Standard Operating Procedural Manual to include training of new Scale house Operators and any procedural updates.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED supplemented by (5) five years of related customer service work experience with a minimum of (2) two years supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience.
- An Associate’s degree can substitute for (2) two years of required experience.
- Experience with DataBridge Scale house Software (attended and unattended) and nCourt Credit Card System is preferred but not required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products such as word, excel, and power point are required.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
- None.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge and ability to operate various office equipment and machines, including personal computers.
Knowledge of scale house collections procedures.
Knowledge of cash handling security and procedures.
Ability to enforce policies and procedures.
Knowledge of SWDD policies and procedures, and ability to put this knowledge into practice in daily operations.
Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with the public.
Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
Customer service skills are required.
Ability to communicate effectively under stressful situations and conditions.
