Security and Camera Technician
Job Description: install, maintain and repair video surveillance and integrated security
systems for residential and commercial clients. Evaluate site layouts, run low-voltage
wiring, configure network settings and troubleshoot hardware or software issues to
ensure properties remain safe and operational.
- Installation: Assess client sites to determine optimal camera placement.
Run wiring (Cat5e/6, coax), terminate cables and physically mount cameras,
access control panels and alarm hardware.
- Configuration: Program Network Video Recorders (NVRs), digital Video
Recorders (VDVRs) and IP cameras. Set up remote viewing software and
network integrations.
- Trouble Shooting & Repair: Diagnose signal loss, network connectivity
issues, equipment malfunctions and power failures. Replace defective
components and restore system standard.
- Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections, perform software and firmware
updates and carryout preventative maintenance on existing security networks
- Client Support: Educate clients on how to operate their security systems,
manage user permissions and retrieve recorded footage.
Key Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education & Experience: Minimum, High School Diploma or equivalent.
Vocational training, an associate degree in IT/Electronics, OR 1 – 3 years of
field experience is strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Solid understanding of CCTV, IP networking, and low
voltage electrical systems. Familiarity with Video Management Systems
(VMS) and networking protocols (TCP/IP).
- Physical & Environmental Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb
ladders, work in varying weather conditions and confined spaces.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, high attention to detail, excellent
verbal/written communication and customer service skills.
- Credentials: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Certifications,
like Certified Protection Professional or networking credentials are a major
plus.
Pay: $20.00 and up per hour, dependent upon knowledge and experience. Busy/Local
