Position Summary:

Provides security and surveillance services at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center by protecting life and property for tribal members, employees, tenants, and visitors. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Patrols all assigned areas; identifies and reports suspicious activities to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs Security Desk duties, including opening of doors, answering the telephone, checking suspicious packages, and dispatching officers where needed.
  • Performs interior and exterior checks for safety hazards and submits work orders to supervisor.
  • Assists customers with motorist assistance, vehicle lockouts, and towing of disabled vehicles.
  • Ensures employees adhere to all policies and procedures; reports any violations.
  • Responds to and controls emergencies, which may include resetting alarms, evacuation and/or shutdown of buildings, and preservation of crime scene.
  • Conducts initial investigations by interviewing and obtaining written statements from customers/employees; completes a thorough and accurate report promptly.
  • Completes and verifies paperwork, departmental logs, reports, and parking violations.
  • Patrols and conducts surveillance of assigned areas for theft, suspicious activity or illegal activities, parking violations, and intoxicated persons.
  • Conducts visual surveillance inside and outside the location assigned.
  • Maintains and controls access to restricted areas.
  • Accepts and logs into property locker, lost and found property, and tags for safekeeping.
  • Fosters and maintains positive guest relations.
  • Performs opening and closing procedures in the main building and Travel Center facility.
  • Provide security patrol of IPCC/IPM and assigned areas to prevent theft, vandalism, burglaries, and other illegal criminal activity.
  • Performs interior/exterior patrol of the Travel Center facility.
  • Coordinates with local law enforcement and immediately reports any illegal or suspicious criminal activities.
  • Detain persons who commit crimes on IPCC/IPMI property and contact local law enforcement for transportation and prosecution.
  • Performs CPR or First Aid as required in the event of medical emergencies.
  • Ensures equipment is clean and in working order and that uniforms are clean and complete.
  • Attends training classes and seminars on security methods, techniques, safety, first aid, and related law enforcement courses.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. Must be at least 21 years of age. Current valid New Mexico Driver's License with no arrests in the past year except for minor traffic violations. No felony convictions or misdemeanors. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, and physical exam. Native American preference will be given.


Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of security operations, principles, and practices including investigation, patrol, communications, records, community/public relations, and crime prevention.
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to follow instructions in verbal and written format.
  • Ability to demonstrate moral character, honesty, tact, fairness, lack of prejudice, and desire to help when dealing with people.
  • Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
  • Ability to make intelligent and effective decisions in routine and emergencies.
  • Ability to prepare accurate, complete, and legible reports and present detailed, accurate, and objective oral presentations and responses to questions.
  • Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
  • Skill in providing training and communicating information to others.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other law enforcement/regulatory agencies, departmental staff, tribal officials, and the public.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid within three months of employment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee occasionally is required to taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

Work is generally performed both in an indoor setting with a moderate to high noise level and outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dust and mist may occur. Prolonged standing and walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground. Situations may occur where prolonged sitting, driving, walking, or waiting is required. Evening, weekend, and/or holiday work will be required. There is frequent interaction with the public.
