The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) or respiratory therapist is an individual trained in the technical aspects of respiratory care and will exhibit those skills and deliver modalities of respiratory therapy, emergent and intensive respiratory care, and diagnostic procedures. Work hours are 24-hour coverage with rotational shift that includes day, night, weekend, holiday shifts plus occasional overtime and on-call. Duties: The following is a shortened version of the full duties for the Respiratory Therapist position at TCRHCC: Work under a preceptor for the first 3 months; may continue based on evaluation. Administer respiratory therapies including IPPB, CPT, aerosol therapy, incentive spirometry, and mixed gas treatments. Conduct patient assessments during therapy rounds and ventilator checks. Provide pre-op and home care instruction, and breathing retraining. Manage oxygen therapy and airway humidification per physician orders. Collect sputum specimens and maintain respiratory equipment. Perform diagnostic evaluations such as spirometry and pulmonary mechanics. Initiate, monitor, and discontinue mechanical ventilation; perform weaning and extubation. Receive and carry out physician orders; consult on respiratory care matters. Train and supervise students, technicians, and assistants. Perform cardiopulmonary diagnostics (PFT, EKG, Holter Monitor, etc.). Assist with intubations and provide tracheostomy care. Act as charge therapist when assigned, including shift assignments and emergency calls. Comply with safety regulations for oxygen delivery and equipment. Provide age-appropriate care and patient education. Maintain positive relationships and demonstrate strong communication skills. Enter data into electronic health records. Take on-call responsibilities for night shifts when assigned. Follow PPE and infection control protocols. Complete training for cleaning and decontamination procedures. Perform other duties as assigned, including supply management and crash cart maintenance. Fulfill CLIA/TJC standards for Arterial Blood Gas Lab and Urease Breath Testing. Qualifications: Education: Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Care from a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) Credentials: Must have and maintain a current valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license from any state of the United States of America, The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States Must have and maintain a current valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) Certification: Must maintain a current valid certification of the following throughout employment: Must have and maintain a current valid BLS Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Must have and maintain a current valid Advance Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), if none, must obtain within 90 days from date of hire Must have and maintain a current valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), if none, must obtain within 180 days from date of hire Must have and maintain a current valid Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), if none, must obtain within 180 days from date of hire Must obtain Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) licensure within 1 year from date of hire.
