Basic Requirement(s)
Education and Certification Requirements - Applicants must meet the credentialing requirements of Public Law 97-35 and 42 CFR Part 75 for radiologic personnel. This includes successful completion of an accredited radiologic technology educational program and current certification/registration as a radiographer.
Note: Certain exceptions may apply: 1) Individuals employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel before January 13, 1986, may qualify based on evidence of current or satisfactory performance, or certification from a licensed practitioner authorized to prescribe radiologic procedures (such as a physician, osteopath, dentist, podiatrist, or chiropractor). 2) Individuals first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after January 13, 1986, may qualify if they completed training or practiced in a state or foreign jurisdiction where accreditation or licensure was not available in that specialty at the time. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: operating fixed and portable radiographic equipment to perform routine and moderately complex diagnostic examinations; positioning patients and selecting technical factors to produce diagnostic-quality images; assisting with fluoroscopic and contrast procedures under supervision; and maintaining radiology records, examination files, and workload data.
GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: independently performing diagnostic radiographic examinations such as chest, spine, skull, abdominal, and extremity studies; evaluating image quality and adjusting exposure techniques to obtain diagnostic images; providing patient care and radiation safety during examinations; operating and troubleshooting radiographic equipment; and maintaining radiology information systems, patient records, and quality assurance standards.
OR
One (1) year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position.
OR
A combination of graduate education and experience. Only graduate education is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: independently performing a full range of routine and complex radiographic examinations, including trauma, surgical, fluoroscopic, and portable studies; adapting imaging techniques and equipment settings to accommodate patient condition and obtain diagnostic-quality images; monitoring patient condition and ensuring radiation and patient safety; identifying equipment malfunctions and coordinating corrective actions; and participating in quality assurance, infection control, and radiology operations activities.
