  • Utilizes evidence-based practices, and culturally sensitive models to provide assessments during behavioral health crises. Incumbent will utilize the theories and therapeutic modalities, evidenced based practices and culturally sensitive models to develop plans with individual/family/group and other special populations such as the physically/mentally challenged and blended families during times of behavioral health crises.
  • Provide evidenced brief interventions and crisis stabilization for clients presenting with behavioral health crises for patients and families
  • Utilizes established standards in assessment, safety planning, treatment, and follow up. The incumbent uses the SOAP format, and documents treatment plans. Documentation will follow the required standards of behavioral health policies and entities such as Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission.   • Provides independent professional decisions and recommendations for patient's continuity in care by providing structured placements for acute and chronic patients in psychiatric facilities, transitional residency, group and/or other secure units.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Basic Requirement(s)

DEGREE: In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the Basic Requirements for a Social Worker, GS-0185 position.

  • A completed master's degree, or higher doctoral degree, in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

Minimum Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

GS-11: 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: provides case management services for inpatients and outpatients that require hospitalizations or supportive community placements. Provides health education to patients, performs mental status evaluation on new admissions, referred patients and consultation.

OR

A successfully completed three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree.

OR

A combination of education and specialized experience as defined in the vacancy announcement that when combined, fully meets the minimum qualifications for this position.

Selective Placement Factor

This position requires a current, valid, and unrestricted license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent in any state or territory of the United States. Please provide a copy of your license with your application

Per IHS policy, vaccination against COVID-19 is highly recommended for IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.

This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
