The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of advocate tasks between hospital personnel, patients, families, and communities to provide awareness an understanding of medical health condition, and inform and update on patient self-determination act and other related hospital activities. This position is located at Chinle Service Unit, Division of Quality Management, Chinle, AZ.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Example of specialized experience: advocate for patients and families, provide information, respond to complaints, administrative support.
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
- A combination of education and specialized experience listed above. One year of education is equivalent to 30 semester hours such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position - transcripts are required.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Example of specialized experience: submit reports, researches, provides orientation to new staff, initiating and implementing a grievance mechanism, determine appropriate course of action to provide service.

- Responds to potential guest dissatisfaction through review of patient charts.
- Determines an appropriate course of action to provide optimum service when patient presents with issues and problems.
- Assist in providing orientation to new staff.
- Participates in conferences, workshops, and literature review.
- Prepares and submits reports and statistical data on a monthly and yearly basis.
