Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with appointment scheduling to ensure a seamless check-in process.
- Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems accurately by entering patient data, updating records, and retrieving information as needed.
- Assist clinical staff with patient intake procedures, including recording vital signs, collecting medical histories, and preparing patients for examinations.
- Support physicians and nurses with basic clinical tasks such as measuring vital signs, performing initial assessments, and assisting with medication administration under supervision.
- Coordinate referrals, test orders (including X-ray and laboratory tests), and follow-up appointments to streamline patient care pathways.
- Handle administrative duties like billing documentation, ICD coding for diagnoses, and managing insurance information to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations while providing excellent patient service throughout their visit.
Skills
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and basic life support principles to effectively support clinical activities.
- Experience working within hospital medicine, urgent care centers, outpatient clinics or Level I/II trauma centers is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with EHR systems and familiarity with ICD coding, medication administration procedures, and vital signs measurement.
- Exceptional patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately across diverse populations.
- Basic understanding of Primary Care workflows related to outpatient clinics; experience supporting physicians in various specialties is a plus.
