Job Summary
The Developmental Swim Coach leads our year-round introductory swim team group. This role focuses entirely on young children who have recently graduated from swim lessons. The coach bridges the gap between learning to swim and competitive racing. You will emphasize technique, stamina, safety, and a love for the sport in a structured team environment. Ages typically 5-9. This role is perfect for an upbeat individual with a passion for the sport of swimming and enjoys working with younger kids.
Primary Responsibilities
- Skill Transition: Transition novice swimmers from basic lessons into swim team endurance and legal competitive formats.
- Technique Instruction: Teach legal stroke mechanics for all four competitive strokes, including streamlined body position, flip turns, and diving starts.
- Practice Design: Plan and execute engaging, safe, and age-appropriate workouts tailored to novice endurance levels. Curriculum and workouts may be provided.
- Meet Support: Attend scheduled swim meets to organize swimmers, guide them to their blocks, and provide positive performance feedback. Occasional coverage of other age group attendance required.
- Parent Communication: Interact with parents face-to-face and by email or text regarding practice schedules, meet registration, and progression criteria.
- Administrative Tracking: Track attendance, assist with evaluations, and handle group advancements throughout the year-round season. Participate in end-of-season banquets twice yearly and other club events throughout the year.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Experience teaching swim lessons, coaching novice youth swim club, or teaching youth sports.
- Certifications: Current certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid are mandatory (Club may provide).
- Regulatory Compliance: Ability to pass USA Swimming background checks and complete mandatory safety courses.
- Core Competencies: Extreme patience, high energy, and excellent vocal projection in loud pool environments.
- Schedule Availability: Commitment to work early afternoon practices (typically 3:30 - 4:30 pm, 2-4 days a week, plus occasional weekend swim meets.
Preferred Skills
- Current Lifeguarding certification.
- Previous personal experience swimming competitively at the club or high school level.
- Knowledge of USA Swimming rules and competitive stroke regulations.
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
