Full-Time Building Substitute

ICS OVERVIEW

Indian Community School (ICS) is seeking a Full-Time Building Substitute to support daily classroom instruction and provide reliable, high-quality coverage across grade levels. This position ensures continuity of learning by stepping into classrooms when teachers or support staff are absent and plays a key role in maintaining a stable, positive environment for students. The ideal candidate is flexible, dependable, student-centered, and committed to supporting a school grounded in Indigenous teachings, community, and academic excellence.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Full-Time Building Substitute position provides consistent instructional coverage for planned and unplanned absences across the school. The role adjusts throughout the day based on building needs and supports instruction, student engagement, and classroom operations. This position contributes directly to reducing disruptions, strengthening the learning environment, and supporting teachers and students schoolwide.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supports instruction, supervision, and classroom management in alignment with lesson plans and school expectations.
• Sustains a positive, respectful, inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and cultural identity.
• Safeguards instructional continuity by following established lesson plans or supplying alternative activities as needed.
• Serves in multiple classrooms, grade levels, subjects, or non-instructional duties depending on daily coverage priorities.
• Submits documentation for attendance, behavior, instructional notes, and updates for the returning teacher.
• Stays professional, confidential, and adherent to all ICS policies and expectations.
• Shares timely communication with teachers, support staff, administrators, and students.
• Syncs daily with the Principal or designee to review coverage needs and building priorities.
• Strengthens instructional operations during high-need periods such as illness surges, Deer Camp, ceremonies, PD days, and statewide testing.
• Stabilizes staffing by reducing reliance on class splits or reassigning specialized staff away from their primary responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree is required.
• Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teaching certification is required.
• Classroom experience or experience working with children preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to new environments, grade levels, and subject matter.
• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable with same-day or short-notice scheduling needs.
• Knowledge of or experience working with American Indian students, families, communities, and cultures preferred.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
