Position Title: IT Operations Consultant (On-Demand / Part-Time)
Location: Remote, but must be in based in the DC-Metro area.
Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen and Public Trust eligible.
Employment Type: On-Demand / Part-Time (hours vary based on need)
Overview:
InDev is seeking an IT Operations Consultant to provide on-demand, scalable support for InDev’s internal IT environment. This role will help mature, secure, and optimize the systems, devices, and cloud platforms that enable our remote-first federal contracting workforce. This is not a full-time position — workload fluctuates based on operational requirements, special projects, onboarding surges, and security or system events.
Key Responsibilities:
Device & Hardware Management
- Provision, configure, and ship laptops using standardized InDev system images.
- Maintain a centralized asset inventory for laptops, peripherals, and assigned equipment.
- Ensure secure device disposal, remote wipe, retrieval, and re-issuance during offboarding cycles.
- Coordinate warranty, repair, and refresh activities across all company devices.
Help Desk, Support & SLA Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal IT issues on an as-needed basis.
- Troubleshoot MS Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, connectivity, and device performance issues.
- Conduct new-hire IT training on InDev systems, tools, and security expectations.
- Maintain and optimize a ticketing system (platform or shared-tracker-based).
Security, Compliance & Federal Expectations
- Monitor Defender for Endpoint alerts, antivirus posture, and OS patching compliance.
- Develop and enforce secure baselines aligned with NIST 800-171 expectations.
- Maintain secure credential storage using approved password managers or vault solutions.
Identity, Access & MS365 Administration
- Manage user accounts in MS365/Azure AD, including MFA enforcement, password policies, and access controls.
- Configure conditional access rules for remote and privileged users.
- Support Active Directory account lifecycle processes and directory hygiene.
Email, Collaboration & SharePoint Governance
- Configure and maintain shared mailboxes, distribution lists, and Exchange Online settings.
- Administer Teams collaboration spaces for project teams, business development, and leadership.
- Implement and maintain SharePoint architecture for InDev (file hierarchy, permissions, governance)
- Tune spam/phishing filters and related security alerts.
Software, Licensing & Subscription Oversight
- Maintain an inventory of all enterprise licenses.
- Ensure proper provisioning/deprovisioning during onboarding/offboarding.
- Track renewal dates and recommend consolidation or cost-saving opportunities.
- Validate license tiers and assignments.
Backup, Continuity & Data Protection
- Ensure endpoint backups are enabled, healthy, and auditable.
- Maintain backup/restore processes for SharePoint and OneDrive with periodic testing.
- Recommend improvements to business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
- Create and maintain IT documentation including device lists, system diagrams, SOPs, and vendor contacts.
- Develop user-friendly guides for common tasks.
- Maintain knowledge base articles for imaging, troubleshooting, and support workflows.
Vendor Management & Procurement
- Procure laptops, software licenses, security tools, peripherals, and cloud services.
- Manage relationships with resellers, ISPs, hardware vendors, and SaaS providers.
- Evaluate tools and technologies to improve InDev’s IT maturity.
Required Qualifications:
- Significant experience with MS Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, connectivity, and device performance issues
- Significant experience provisioning, configuring, and shipping laptops using standardized InDev system images.
- Experience maintaining secure credential storage using approved password managers or vault solutions.
- Experience managing help desk incidents and issues.
- Experience supporting a hybrid or remote workforce.
- Familiarity with NIST 800-171 or similar security frameworks.
- Strong documentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently in an on-demand support model.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with MS365, Azure AD, Exchange Online, and device management.
- Experience with a federal contracting environment.
- Knowledge of ticketing systems or ITSM workflows.
- Experience with imaging or RMM tools.
