CNC Lathe Specialist / CNC Programmer
InDesign Products Inc. | Boise, Idaho
Position: Full-Time | On-Site
Department: Precision Manufacturing
About InDesign Products
InDesign Products is an ISO 9001:2015-certified precision manufacturing and engineering company based in Boise, Idaho. We specialize in CNC machining, product development, prototyping, and production manufacturing for industries including semiconductor equipment, aerospace, defense, and industrial applications.
We operate advanced DMG MORI CNC equipment and are looking for an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist who can independently program, set up, and operate our machines.
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Machinist / Programmer with strong experience in CNC turning, 3-axis machining, and CAD/CAM programming.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on machinist who can take a customer drawing or 3D model, develop the machining process, program the machine, select tooling, and produce precision parts with minimal supervision.
Primary equipment: DMG MORI NLX 2500 SY / 700 CNC Turning Center.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate DMG MORI CNC lathes.
- Develop CNC programs using Mastercam and/or Autodesk Fusion 360.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D CAD models.
- Perform CNC turning, milling, drilling, boring, threading, and live-tooling operations.
- Work with multi-axis turning centers, including Y-axis and sub-spindle operations.
- Select cutting tools, workholding, feeds, speeds, and machining strategies.
- Optimize machining processes to reduce cycle times and improve efficiency.
- Perform first-article inspections and maintain tight dimensional tolerances.
- Troubleshoot machining, programming, and tooling issues.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams on prototypes and production jobs.
- Maintain quality standards, machine condition, and a safe working environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on CNC machining experience, preferably focused on CNC turning.
- Experience programming and operating CNC lathes.
- Experience with 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC milling and machining.
- Proficiency in Mastercam, Fusion 360, or equivalent CAM software.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks for reviewing and interpreting 3D models.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, precision measurement, and machining tolerances.
- Ability to independently program, set up, and complete machining jobs.
- Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, and other engineering metals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with DMG MORI NLX series turning centers.
- Familiarity with DMG MORI controls and programming environments.
- Experience with live tooling, Y-axis machining, and sub-spindle operations.
- Experience with prototype, high-mix, low-volume manufacturing.
- Experience with 3-axis, 4-axis or 5-axis CNC machining.
- Experience working in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
- Ability to use SolidWorks to make minor design adjustments or prepare models for manufacturing.
What We're Looking For
We are a growing precision manufacturing company and need someone who is comfortable taking ownership of jobs from start to finish.
We value practical machining experience, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and a willingness to continuously improve manufacturing processes.
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys machining challenging parts rather than simply operating pre-programmed equipment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive compensation based on experience.
- Full-time, on-site position in Boise, Idaho.
- Opportunity to work with advanced DMG MORI machining equipment.
- Opportunity to contribute to the growth of a precision manufacturing and engineering business.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume, including your experience with CNC turning centers, DMG MORI equipment, and CAD/CAM programming.
