Why Work with Us?

At Independent Living, Inc., we believe that people heal, grow, and thrive in community — and that lived experience is a powerful form of expertise. When you join our team, you become part of a supportive, mission-driven culture where your voice matters and your story is valued.

Here, you’re not just doing a job.

You’re helping build a welcoming space where people feel seen, respected, and connected.

You’re making a real difference in someone’s life, often at a time when they need it most.

If you’re looking for meaningful work, a team that has your back, and a place where your lived experience is recognized as a strength, you’ll feel right at home with us.

We strongly encourage individuals with disabilities and those with diverse backgrounds to apply.

Your Experience Matters

If you’re someone who has lived through life challenges such as mental health struggles, recovery from substance use, involvement with the justice system, disability, homelessness, or major life transitions, you may have the exact strengths we’re looking for.

This position is rooted in peer support: using your own lived experience, empathy, and personal growth to help others feel understood, supported, and empowered. You do not need a college degree to be a strong fit. What matters most is your ability to connect with people, offer hope, and help them navigate services with dignity and confidence.

As the Intake Coordinator for Peer Services, you are often the very first person someone meets when they come to us. You set the tone; warm, welcoming, and judgment-free. You help people get started with services, find the right resources, stay connected, and feel supported every step of the way.

This role blends peer support, front desk operations, resource navigation, and community connection. You’ll be part of a team that believes in recovery, independence, and the power of shared experience.

  • Greet people, listen to their needs, and help them get connected to the right staff or services.

  • Keep program rosters, calendars, and resource lists up to date.
  • Make sure front desk and center coverage is always in place.
  • Offer empathy, encouragement, and support based on your own lived experience.
  • Help people explore independent living skills like housing, budgeting, transportation, employment readiness, or self-advocacy.
  • Assist with connecting individuals to treatment programs (inpatient, outpatient, detox, MAT), including checking availability and helping with referrals.
  • Share information about disability rights, local services, and community resources.
  • Co-facilitate support groups and sober social activities as needed.
  • Create and share monthly calendars, flyers, and event updates.
  • Maintain email lists and help manage social media posts about groups and activities.
  • Orient new members to the center and help volunteers/interns feel supported.
  • Maintain front office processes, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with transportation coordination and accompany staff when transporting participants.
  • Keep digital files and program materials organized.
  • Record meeting minutes when needed.
  • Enter intakes, admissions, discharges, service notes, and referrals into the agency database.
  • Maintain sign-in logs and visitor information.
  • Support accurate record-keeping for volunteers, interns, vehicles, and office operations.
  • Attend trainings, team meetings, and learning opportunities.
  • Help new employees learn the agency database and daily procedures.
  • Take on other tasks as needed, we grow and improve together.
