What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tooling Engineer II position at Independent Can Company and Careers?

We are looking for a Tooling Engineer II who enjoys solving technical challenges and developing tooling solutions that improve production capability. In this role, you will design and develop tooling and equipment that support new product development, manufacturing efficiency, and strategic initiatives across the organization.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Operations, and Machine Shop teams to design tooling, troubleshoot production challenges, and help bring new products to life.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop tooling and equipment to support new product development and manufacturing improvements
  • Create tooling drawings and models using AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Support production teams with tool commissioning, setup, troubleshooting, and debugging
  • Provide tooling cost estimates and capability analysis during product development and quoting
  • Work with Sales and Pre-Press teams to evaluate embossing capabilities and lead times
  • Create and maintain engineering standards, procedures, and documentation
  • Manage purchase orders and maintain relationships with external tooling vendors
  • Collaborate across departments to resolve technical and operational challenges
  • Follow company safety standards, SQF requirements, and GMP practices

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (ABET accredited preferred)
  • 3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with 3D modeling software (SolidWorks or Inventor)
  • Understanding of drafting standards, tolerances, and material finishes
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Experience in tooling design and fabrication
  • Experience working with dies, progressive dies, threaders, flangers, seamers, welders, or other can-making equipment
  • Exposure to CNC machining environments

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,500.00 - $99,800.00 per year
