Pathologist Assistant II (Missoula, MT)

Pathologists' Assistant II describes gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated, and complicated surgical specimens, ensuring all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned; dissects surgical specimens and prepares tissue for histologic processing, and assists Pathologists in performing autopsies.

You Will:

• Perform gross examination and dictation of surgical specimens
• Initiate photographs for all appropriate gross specimens for teaching purposes and patient reports
• Keep paperwork, instruments, and workspace clean, free of blood or other potential contaminating or infectious materials
• Assist Pathologists

1. In frozen sections - ability to troubleshoot and take corrective actions for problems with frozen section preparation and staining, or problems with the cryostat
2. In autopsies: confer with the attending pathologist(s) to identify any special techniques and procedures to be utilized in the completion of examination (e.g. cultures smears; histochemical, immunofluorescence, toxicological, viral, etc), and notifying all personnel directly involved

• Process a fresh lymph node, including touch preps, representative sections in RPMI
• Ability to open a uterus, bowel, ovary, etc. submitted for OR consultation and present findings to Pathologist
• Support the maintenance of the cryostat as required
• Assist Pathologist in autopsies and confer with the attending pathologist(s) to identify any special techniques and procedures to be utilized in the completion of examination (e.g., cultures smears; histochemical, immunofluorescence, toxicological, viral, etc.), and notifying all personnel directly involved
• Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations & support department for inspection readiness
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• BS Degree required; MS Degree, preferred
• Graduate of an NAACLS accredited PA Program and possess ASCP certification (PA)
• 1 year experience minimum, within a pathology or laboratory setting (performing mid to complex testing/analysis of specimens), additional expereince much preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills & maintain professionalism in all facets of the laboratory environment 
• Proficient PC skills including MS Office, and the ability to learn new software
• Demonstrate the ability to perform effectively under pressure and work & maintain professionalism in all facets of the laboratory environment 
• Willing to instruct and train other staff members

Pay Range: $83,467.00 - $121,028.00 USD Annually

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Generally, new hire offers will be between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on experience (DOE), with the ability to grow within the range over time.
