Overview
In this role, you will provide daily support, encouragement, and guidance while helping individuals build essential life and social skills.
Direct Support Professionals help create a safe and supportive environment where individuals can grow, participate in their community, and reach personal goals.
Direct Support Professionals support individuals in their daily lives while promoting independence and community integration.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Assisting with daily living activities
Offering companionship and emotional support
Promoting independence and life skills
Supporting community involvement and activities
The ideal candidate is patient, reliable, and committed to person-centered care. Experience in home care, community support, assisted living, or long-term care settings is helpful, along with a strong understanding of confidentiality and HIPAA standards.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting with personal hygiene and daily living activities
Helping develop social, leisure, and independent living skills
Providing companionship and encouragement
Monitoring the individual’s safety and well-being
Training individuals in skills needed for paid or non-paid employment, including:
Appropriate behaviors
Job awareness
Safety practices
Attendance and Work Ethic
Collecting and recording data required by the Individual Plan (IP) to track progress
Reporting any activities that may impact an individual's health or safety
Transporting individuals to vocational placements, services, and activities
Notifying supervisors promptly if unable to report to work
Following all laws, policies, and procedures related to DDS, confidentiality, APS, DHS, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies
Experience Preferred
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
CPR, First Aid, or MAT certifications (can be provided after hire)
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift at least 40 lbs
- Must pass background check
