What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional position at INCOR/Sheltered Work Activity Program?
DESCRIPTION:
Guides, assists and provides companionship to persons with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in their development of basic living and social skills with the primary goal of integrating into the community.
DUTIES:
- May be responsible for complete care of the individual, including personal hygiene, budgeting, money management, cooking, cleaning, exercising, weekly menus, shopping lists, leisure skills, and all other activities of daily living with an emphasis on working towards the individual’s independent living.
- May be responsible for training the individual in those skills necessary for success in a paid or non-paid placement, to include appropriate behaviors, job awareness, safety practices, timely attendance, and all other work ethics and practices.
- Responsible, regardless of shift, for monitoring of the individual’s well-being and safety.
- Provides companionship to the individual(s) with whom they are working.
- May perform necessary household duties (cleaning, laundry, shopping, cooking, etc.) Encourages participation by individuals with emphasis on skills development.
- Is knowledgeable in and practices universal precautions when working with the individual.
- Implements programs developed by the individuals’ team to meet the goals and objectives of each individual’s Individual Plan (IP).
- Collects and records data on outcomes as required by the IP as a means of tracking the individual's progress.
- May transport the individual served to needed vocational placements, services, and activities.
- Follows all laws, policies, and procedures regarding DDS, client confidentiality, APS, DHS, OSHA, and all other federal, state, and local regulations or regulatory agencies.
- When on duty, remains awake and alert at all times.
- Reports any activities that may threaten or impact upon the individual's safety and/or health.
- When driving a company vehicle, is responsible for keeping the vehicle free of debris and reports any maintenance issues to the supervisor immediately.
- Contacts immediate supervisor in a timely manner when unable to work.
- Performs all other duties as requested or required
REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Have a working knowledge of basic computer functions
- Possess and maintain a working telephone contact number
- Must pass all background check requirements:
- A criminal arrest check will be done through the OSBI. Any person with a felony conviction cannot work for INCOR.
- Community Services Registry Check will be done through Developmental Disabilities Service Division, Department of Human Services. The person whose name appears on the registry cannot work for INCOR.
- Mary Rippy Violent Crime Offender Registry check will be done. Any person whose name appears on the registry cannot work for INCOR.
- Must be able to drive, have and maintain a valid, unrestricted, Oklahoma driver license.
- Must maintain adequate personal automobile liability insurance and a reliable climate controlled personal vehicle.
- Must be able to communicate orally, both over the phone and face-to-face.
- Must be able to prepare and read written documentation as well as perform and understand basic mathematical functions.
- Work flexible schedule based on schedules of persons served and the needs of INCOR.
- Must follow INCOR policy and procedures.
- Participates in random drug testing.
- Attends all scheduled staff meetings, in-services, and training classes and uses concepts and practices gained.
- Must accurately report hours worked and mileage traveled.
- Insures all individuals served are safe in their environment and program participation at all times.
- Must fulfill all training and in-service requirements necessary to work with individuals served within the timeframe required by INCOR and the State of Oklahoma. Training to include: Foundations, First Aid, CPR, ETL I/Effective Teaching, Behavior Support, Incident Reporting, Communication, Connections, Ethical & Legal, Health, Nuts & Bolts, Skill Building, MAT and any individual specific training and in-services.
- Physical capacities include bending, stooping, lifting a minimum of 40 pounds, as well as the ability to lift, transfer, and position individuals served.
- Must be able to work with frequent interruptions, deal with diverse personalities during difficult/sometimes stressful situations and still complete job assignments
- This position is not eligible for telecommuting.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $11.00 - $13.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
