Part-Time Utility Maintenance Technician – Overview

The Part-Time Utility Maintenance Technician supports the daily operations and upkeep of water and wastewater utility systems throughout the Buchanan, VA area. This role provides hands-on assistance with routine maintenance, equipment monitoring, and field operations to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant utility services. Working under the guidance of licensed operators and senior technicians, the Utility Maintenance Technician helps maintain system performance, troubleshoot minor issues, and support essential service tasks within the community.
Key responsibilities typically include performing basic mechanical and facility maintenance; inspecting and flushing hydrants and valves; assisting with sampling and water quality checks; monitoring equipment and instrumentation; and supporting general fieldwork such as mowing grass, reading meters, repairing small components, and maintaining clean and orderly work areas. The role may also involve on-site support for emergency repairs or operational needs as they arise.
