Responsibilities
- Operate horizontal directional drilling machines to install underground utilities such as water, sewer, gas, and electrical lines with high accuracy.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections of drilling equipment, ensuring all machinery is functioning properly and safely.
- Follow project plans, specifications, and safety protocols to execute drilling operations efficiently.
- Coordinate with team members to set up drill sites, including positioning support equipment like excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, water trucks, and dump trucks.
- Monitor drilling progress continuously, adjusting techniques as needed to prevent damage or misalignment.
- Maintain detailed records of drilling activities, including measurements, depths, and any issues encountered during operations.
- Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment such as Caterpillar machinery, backhoes, loaders, graders, and tankers to ensure optimal performance.
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating horizontal directional drills or similar heavy construction equipment in a construction or utility installation setting.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy machinery including excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, and tankers.
- Valid commercial driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience with commercial driving preferred.
- Familiarity with construction site safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and project plans accurately.
- Knowledge of construction materials and techniques related to underground utility installation.
