Job Summary
In-Roads Creative Programs, Inc. is looking for individuals that are passionate about providing care to children and adults with Intellectual Disabilities. We are looking for mature, responsible, caring and compassionate caregiver to provide in-home care in consumers home to allow parents/caregivers temporary relief to run errands, relax, attend appointments, etc. while their child is being cared for. Must be friendly, outgoing and responsible. Positions available in Barstow, CA.
Position Summary
It is the responsibility of the Respite Worker to care for consumers with a wide range of social, emotional, and physical needs. The Respite Worker is prepared to care for any consumer who can be safely cared for in a home-like setting, including consumers with challenging behaviors.
The Respite Worker is responsible for communicating with parents at transitions. The Respite Worker stays in communication with all other service providers, and relaying calls from parents that require an immediate response. Respite Workers share responsibility of completing necessary paperwork and forms.
Essential Functions
- Ensures the personal safety of consumers by providing appropriate, nurturing personal care.
- Assists assigned consumers with basic tasks necessary for living in a family home setting. Tasks include feeding, participating in recreation activities, maintaining appropriate clothing, and other activities which are fundamental to daily living.
- Provides encouragement and praise to support positive behavior.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding consumer, his/her family, family activities, and any records pertaining to consumer which become known to the Respite Worker.
- Must be able to make sound judgments, work independently and as a member of a team.
- Assist and observe personal care/grooming activities such as washing face, brushing teeth and changing clothes.
- Assist and observe with independent living skills such as straightening bedroom, play area and toys, light meal preparation and feeding (by mouth only – no G-Tube feeding)
- Assist and observe with recreational activities such as playing games, reading books, watching TV and videos, arts and craft projects, homework, and outside play.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to routinely lift 25 pounds and sustain long hours of active work.
- Must be able to supervise consumers through sight and sound.
- Must be able to take consumers outdoors on a daily basis.
- Must be able to make sound judgments, work independently and as a member of a team.
Qualifications
- 2 year experience working with children or adults with disabilities
- Knowledge of appropriate responses when a consumer is exhibiting behavior which may pose a danger to his/her self or others.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background, including submitting fingerprints (Live Scan).
- Obtain/maintain first aid certification and CPR certification.
- Negative T.B. test
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
Valid California’s driver’s license, access to vehicle for work, and insurance

Maintain a professional approach with parents, supervisor, Regional Center Consumer Coordinators.
Maintain confidentiality of information at all times.
