Mechanical Engineer:

In Orbit is looking for a Mechanical Engineer eager to join a diverse and dynamic team developing solutions for cargo delivery where traditional aircraft and drones fail.

As an early career Mechanical Engineer at In Orbit you will provide technical and hands-on support across our programs. You will work under the direction of other engineers on the full gambit of design, manufacturing, and test of our hardware platforms. The ideal candidate for this position will have a solid foundation of mechanical design and analysis principles as well as verifiable hands-on experience showcased through projects they have built during their education, internships, and/or independently.


Responsibilities:

  • Work under the guidance of engineering staff to progress project deliverables and R&D goals
  • Assist team in preparing for and executing field tests and demonstration events
  • Assist in compiling design descriptions, test plans, reports, and other engineering documentation
  • Operate in-house assembly, manufacturing, and test equipment to rapidly prototype hardware while ensuring quality and safety


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree level of education in Mechanical Engineering or similar curriculum
  • Verifiable experience designing and assembling mechanical systems
  • Experience with CAD tools such as Autodesk Fusion 360, Solidworks, etc.
  • Familiar with mathematical approach to analyzing and sizing mechanical and structural systems
  • Solid teamworking and relationship building skills with the ability to effectively communicate difficult technical problems and solutions with other engineering disciplines


Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience operating manufacturing equipment ranging from 3d printers to CNC machines
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and knowledge on proper soldering techniques
  • Knowledge of programming in a language such as Python, C, C , or Arduino


Additional Requirements:

Willing to work extended hours as needed

Able to lift and carry equipment up to 50lbs

Able to occasionally travel (~10%) and support off-site testing


ITAR Requirements:

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
