In Flight Inc., is a nonprofit that provides support services within a home environment and the community for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).

As a Direct Support Professional in the Day Hab, you will be instrumental in providing daily support for adults with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities. You will be an essential part in assisting in achieving goals, promoting independence, encouraging socialization, and providing opportunities for community integration. This is a 40-hour Monday- Friday, 8am-4pm position. No required weekends and holidays off.
- Assisting individuals in reaching their potential through community integration.
- Assist with program planning and training toward the goals of independence and choice.
- Work assisting people served in becoming self-sufficient, self-advocating, self-driven, self-actualized individuals.
- Provide a full day of comprehensive, active programming for individuals served.
- Community integration to do both recreation and volunteer activities.
- Must be able to effectively drive the agency van to transport participants to and from day services.
- Assist our participants to explore and develop experiences that provide them with a good quality of life by planning and implementing a monthly activity schedule.
- Will act as a professional role model for the individuals, will maintain a professional manner and presentation at all times. .
- Follow and implement agency practices in accordance with each Individuals Individual Plan of Protective Oversight.
- Follow all NYS and OPWDD regulations regarding working with IDD populations.

Requirements:
- Required- High School Diploma or GED
- Acceptable driver’s license based on insurance company regulations.
- Pass NYS and OPWDD background clearances.
- Attend In Flight orientation located in Red Hook.

All Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are expected to wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear that enables them to have good traction and balance. DSPs are expected to avoid clothing that is excessively tight, short or revealing. No part of under garments should be visible outside clothing. Shirts and tops should cover the entire torso. Hats/hoods and sunglasses will be removed while indoors.
SKILLS
Language Skills: The employee must have the ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence/memos. Have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills: Have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide 2-3 digit numbers using units of United States’ currency, weight, volume and distance measurements.
Reasoning Skills: Have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Have the ability to problem-solve involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid NYS driver license with acceptable driving record by agency insurance standards.
- The employee is required to successfully complete several agency trainings, including but not limited to crisis intervention and prevention training, Medication Administration, PR/First Aid, Driver Certification and Behavior Management. Upon hire and as required through certification standards
PHYSICAL DEMANDS are representative of those that must be met by an employee in order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
