About Us
REDCOM Laboratories, Inc., a U.S. company that specializes in the development of advanced strategic, operational, and tactical communication solutions. We are looking for a compassionate and detail-oriented Benefits and Leave Specialist to join our HR team and enhance our employee experience. In this hands-on role, you'll support our team's well-being by managing benefits and leave administration in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Position Summary
This position will manage all aspects of employee benefits and leave administration, from enrollment and compliance to personalized employee support. Reporting directly to the VP of HR, you will work to ensure our drive toward self-funded benefits programs is efficient, compliant, and employee-friendly. This role emphasizes high attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and a teaching-oriented approach to help individuals understand and maximize their benefits and leave entitlements—fostering a culture of trust and support.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer open enrollment processes, including plan communications, employee enrollments, and changes via HRIS and carrier portals.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits and leave inquiries, conducting one-on-one sessions to explain options in an accessible, patient manner.
  • In lockstep with our broker, manage self-funded health plans, including claims reconciliation, stop-loss monitoring, and coordination with third-party administrators (TPAs).
  • Administer employee leaves of absence, including FMLA, medical, personal, disability, and other applicable leaves; process requests, determine eligibility, coordinate certifications, and ensure smooth returns to work.
  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, FMLA, ADA, and other relevant regulations; prepare required filings and audits.
  • Analyze benefits and leave utilization data to recommend cost-effective improvements and support annual renewals.
  • Collaborate with payroll and finance on deductions, reconciliations, COBRA administration, and leave-related pay adjustments.
  • Develop and deliver educational workshops, webinars, or materials on benefits and leave topics to empower employees.
  • Maintain accurate records, resolve discrepancies, and generate reports for leadership on benefits and leave metrics and trends.
  • Assist in vendor negotiations and stay abreast of industry best practices for self-funded employer benefits and leave management.
Qualifications
Required:
  • 1-3 years of experience in benefits administration, leave administration, or related HR support roles (candidates with exposure to both benefits and leaves are ideal; less experienced applicants with strong familiarity in these areas are encouraged to apply).
  • Familiarity with FMLA and common leave processes.
  • A "teacher by nature" mindset—proven ability to break down complex information into clear, engaging guidance for diverse employees.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems (e.g., Paychex, Employee Navigator) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine passion for helping others.
Preferred:
  • Experience managing self-funded employer benefits, including health, dental, and wellness programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or benefits-specific certification (a plus but not required).
  • Familiarity with manufacturing or small-company environments where you can build strong, direct relationships.
What We Offer
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
  • A supportive, growth-oriented culture in a small, close-knit team.
