Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to oversee nursing operations within Richmond County, NC jail . This vital role combines clinical expertise with leadership skills to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, maintain compliance with healthcare standards, and manage nursing staff effectively. As a Lead Nurse in corrections, you will be responsible for coordinating medical services, supervising nursing personnel, and ensuring that all health needs of incarcerated individuals are met with compassion, efficiency, and professionalism. Duties

• Lead and supervise nursing staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations to ensure optimal team functioning.
• Oversee patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and comprehensive health evaluations for individuals with diverse medical needs.
• Manage medication administration, IV infusion procedures, catheter care, and sterile processing in accordance with healthcare protocols and safety standards.
• Coordinate diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory testing, medical imaging, sonography, spinal taps, and other specialized procedures.
• Ensure accurate medical documentation using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Conduct triage assessments to prioritize urgent care needs and facilitate timely interventions for acute pain management or emergency situations.
• Implement infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and adhere to OSHA standards to maintain a safe clinical environment.
• Participate in discharge planning, case management, utilization review, and utilization management to optimize patient outcomes and resource use.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including behavioral health specialists, physical therapists, and physicians to deliver holistic care tailored to individual needs such as dementia care or memory care.
• Provide training on advanced procedures like airway management, ventilator use, cardiac catheterization support, or catheterization techniques as needed.

Skills

• Proven experience working in correctional facilities or similar high-acuity environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or ICU settings.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding systems, CPT coding for procedures like suturing or gastric lavage.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with supervising experience in nursing teams; capable of managing schedules and fostering team collaboration.
• Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation and reporting.
• Expertise in patient assessment techniques including vital signs monitoring and specimen collection/processing.
• Skilled in performing invasive procedures like phlebotomy, venipuncture, injection administration, tube feeding management and sterile technique applications.
• Knowledge of infection control protocols specific to correctional healthcare environments; familiar with HIPAA compliance standards.
• Ability to handle complex cases involving behavioral health issues or working with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays.
• Experience managing acute care situations including airway management and ventilator support; capable of responding swiftly in emergency scenarios such as trauma or cardiac events.
• Excellent communication skills for effective triage discussions and interdisciplinary collaboration; committed to delivering compassionate patient care aligned with NCQA standards.
