POSITION SUMMARY

The Welder/Assembly Technician is responsible for executing a variety of welding and fabrication tasks including weld preparation, welding, and finishing processes to produce high-quality products that meet customer specifications and engineering requirements. This role involves the mechanical assembly of both standard and custom-built components, as well as cutting and prepping raw materials for fabrication. The technician is also involved in grinding, forming, and fitting components as needed for product assembly. In addition to hands-on production duties, this position supports the development of Bills of Materials (BOMs), work instructions, and process routings for new or modified products. The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to precision, safety, and continuous improvement within a dynamic manufacturing environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of the Welder/Assembly Technician include, but are not limited to, the following:

Welder Responsibilities:

· Performs welding tasks proficiently using assigned techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.).

· Interprets mechanical drawings and blueprints, including weld symbols, to determine material specifications and work sequences.

· Sets up and operates welding equipment with knowledge of appropriate parameters (e.g., amperage, voltage).

· Conducts first-piece inspections, ensuring adherence to specifications and completing associated documentation.

· Performs routine maintenance on welding equipment to ensure operational safety and effectiveness.

· Uses finish grinding techniques and tools—both manual and powered—for weld cleanup and final touches.

· Examines and measures workpieces using straightedges, templates, and gauges to confirm conformance.

· Clamps, tack-welds, heat-bends, and fit parts to desired configurations prior to final welding.

· Utilizes fabricating equipment such as brakes, shears, plasma cutters, rolls, grinders, and drill presses for metal shaping.

· Safely removes high spots or bevels with hand files, grinders, and cutting torches.

· Operates hand and power tools, from hammers and hoists to electronic testing devices, as needed for welding operations.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Assembly Responsibilities:

· Assembles mechanical or electromechanical parts and units using hand and power tools, aligning and fastening components with precision.

· Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications to determine assembly sequences and component requirements.

· Marks parts with identifying information and securely attach nameplates.

· Conducts inspections to identify defective components or issues, using appropriate repair or reporting protocols.

· Uses accurate measurement techniques and instruments such as micrometers and calipers to ensure component tolerances.

· Drills, taps, reams, and countersink holes using drill presses and handheld tools per assembly specifications.

· Document work performed at each production stage and maintained accurate records for traceability and quality control.

· Collaborates closely with fellow technicians to uphold product quality standards and efficient workflows.

· Adheres to safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workspace.

· Performs minor repairs on tools or equipment when required.

· Executes other duties as assigned by the area supervisor or shop lead.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Proficient in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques with a strong understanding of welding safety standards and procedures.

· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and schematics.

· Skilled in using a wide range of tools and equipment including grinders, shears, plasma cutters, brakes, and drill presses.

· Knowledge of mechanical assembly processes and fabrication best practices.

· Familiarity with measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and rulers to ensure precision and quality.

· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, particularly in fitting and aligning complex assemblies.

· High attention to detail with an emphasis on quality workmanship.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

· Effective communication and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a welding certification program or technical training preferred.

· Minimum of 2 years of experience in welding, metal fabrication, or mechanical assembly roles, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

· Demonstrated ability to pass internal welding competency tests.

· Experience working in a production environment with custom or small-batch manufacturing is highly desirable.

·Electrical assembly experience a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times.

· Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
