Job Summary
The Direct Care Worker plays a vital role in providing compassionate and personalized care to individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and private residences. This position involves supporting clients with daily living activities, ensuring their safety and well-being, and fostering a positive environment that promotes independence and dignity. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, seniors, or those requiring memory care.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Provide patient care and support for individuals with various needs, including those with Alzheimer's or dementia.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and overall health status, reporting any changes to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Prepare meals and assist with meal planning according to dietary restrictions or preferences.
- Maintain cleanliness in living areas by performing light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and organizing.
- Assist clients in mobility using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Implement care plans developed by healthcare professionals to ensure individualized support.
- Administer medication as prescribed while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Engage clients in social activities to enhance their quality of life and promote social interaction.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to clients while respecting their personal choices and dignity.
Skills
- First aid and CPR certification are highly desirable.
- Experience in group home settings or long-term care facilities is preferred.
- Strong patient observation skills to monitor changes in physical or mental health.
- Ability to assist with heavy lifting when necessary for client mobility.
- Knowledge of caregiving techniques for individuals with disabilities or autism is beneficial.
- Understanding of memory care practices for clients with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
- Familiarity with home health care procedures and hospice care principles is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams.
