GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Endoscopy Director of Nurses assists the Endoscopy Administrator with the overall operational function of the Endoscopy Clinic as it relates to specific patient care areas. Assists in other aspects of the Administrator's job duties as assigned including functioning as the Administrator in times of the Administrator's absence. This position involves direct patient care and team leadership. Serves as nursing representative on Quality Assurance committee and secretary at quarterly meetings. Must maintain an effective working relationship with patients, families, physicians, employees, Administrator, Medical Director, and Governing Board.

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:
Reports to Endoscopy Administrator and Physician

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Endoscopy staff as assigned

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and direct activities for nursing team members assigned to the area and ensure required coverage for patient care and effective utilization of staff.
  • Assist in the unit staff development and orientation program. Maintain all employee folders.
  • Major role in quarterly meetings in conjunction with the Administrator.
  • Determine, secure, store, and distribute supplies and equipment and provide for their safe and economical use.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the unit budget, fiscal planning, utilization and marketing activities.
  • Attends and participates as well as gathers documents for quarterly meetings, Board of Directors meetings, QA/RM, Infection Control, Records Review and any additional meetings in which patient care is discussed.
  • Participates in committees as assigned.
  • Promotes and participates in patient education and rehabilitation through post-procedure teaching and interprets community resources available for patient care.
  • Maintains status in professional nursing organization.
  • Assists in all CMS Quality Measures and CDC quality measures.
  • Plans, organizes, delegates, performs and evaluates nursing services to ensure continuity of safe and effective care in accordance with recognized standards.
  • Assists personnel to identify and provide for developmental needs.
  • Assists in the orientation of new employees.
  • Obtains and coordinates services for direct and indirect patient care provided by support services.
  • Determines, secures, stores, and distributes supplies and equipment and provides for their safe, effective, and economical use.
  • Assists in the development and administration of the Center budget.
  • Participates effectively in the development and implementation of departmental philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies.
  • Interprets policies, directives, and procedures to patients and personnel including identification of and judicious use of making exceptions to policies.
  • Maintains an effective level of communication with fellow employees to ensure continuity of care.
  • Keeping Administrator informed of progress, problems, and needs to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Assists the Administrator in maintaining all the necessary documents as well as following the rules, regulations, and standards of care for licensing and certification for ambulatory surgical centers in order to assure yearly re-licensure.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Louisiana state Registered Nursing license.
  • Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • CPR Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • CGRN (Certification in Gastroenterology) preferred.
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years' experience as staff nurse with generalized experience in all areas of medical/surgical nursing.
  • Prior Endoscopy experience preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Communication Skills – Strong communication skills and have personal professional appearance.
  • Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to learn and use multiple computer software programs.

  • Must be able to work as a team player.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must be able to multi-task. Frequent interruptions require being able to handle a fast-paced work environment.

  • Must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and shading.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Office setting. Frequent telephone calls and office visits by employees, managers, supervisors and applicants. Frequent interruptions, which requires being able to handle a fast-paced work environment during entire time at work. Must be able to prioritize multiple projects. The timely completion of recurring and ongoing assignments is required. Must maintain strict confidentiality and exercise professionalism at all times. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, bend repeatedly, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize. May be required to lift 50 – 100 lbs. Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working unsupervised.
