Requirements / Qualifications

State-approved EIPA Pre-hire Screening completed with a "Hire" or "Hire with Caution" recommendation in the initial year of employment. Hold an approved California Department of Education (CDE) state-issued waiver for subsequent years of employment. The Education Interpreter with an approved CA CDE Waiver involves a higher skill level to permit spontaneous interpretation of technical and complex subject matter. In addition, this job class requires an advanced level of voice interpreting skills. Two (2) years of paid or voluntary experience working with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals who use manual communication. Successful completion of appropriate college or equivalent coursework and/or experience, or native signer with documented experience and references. Associate degree in interpreting for the deaf and hard-of-hearing preferred. High school diploma
