Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Sr. Internal Auditor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the effectiveness of internal controls, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and identifying areas for operational improvement across our real estate portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive audits of the real estate holdings, including apartments, commercial properties, and related financial activities. This entails reviewing processes, testing evidence and evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls and documenting work clearly and thoroughly using word processing, spreadsheets and other business software.
Evaluate the accuracy and completeness of financial records and reports related to real estate transactions and operations.
Assess internal control systems and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and risk management. Design and recommend internal controls as needed to ensure compliance with industry standards, policies, and applicable real estate regulations.
Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal policies governing real estate transactions and management.
Review leasing agreements, property management, maintenance, and other operational processes.
Investigate any irregularities, fraud, or financial discrepancies related to real estate assets.
Prepare audit reports, detailing findings, risks, and recommendations for executive leadership and stakeholders.
Collaborate with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for real estate investments, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
Stay updated on industry regulations, real estate market trends, and internal control best practices.
Ensure that all financial operations and reports are compliant with tax laws, regulations, and industry best practices specific to real estate.
Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives related to auditing and financial operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, or a related field. CPA or similar professional certification preferred.
Proven experience in internal auditing, especially within real estate or property management firms. Minimum of 7 years of audit experience with at least 3 years in relatable real estate environment.
Strong understanding of real estate transactions, property management, and leasing processes.
Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficiency in audit software, MS Office, and property management systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior executives, auditors, and internal teams.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and identify key issues and trends in real estate portfolios.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional certifications such as CIA, CPA, or CAM.
Experience working in a large family office environment.
