Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
Manage, coach, and develop a team of underwriters in a collaborative, performance-driven environment.
Provide training, guidance, and continuous development opportunities to enhance team capability and effectiveness.
Underwriting Process Management
Oversee risk-based underwriting procedures, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
Analyze underwriting performance and identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
Technology & Process Optimization
Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to maintain and enhance underwriting platforms and technologies.
Lead system upgrades and automation initiatives to streamline workflows and improve decision quality.
Risk Assessment & Compliance
Direct the evaluation of partners and their merchants or clients, ensuring compliance with card brand rules, internal policies, and risk best practices.
Make informed underwriting decisions leveraging data analytics and risk indicators.
Strategic Growth & Business Partnership
Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute strategies that promote growth while maintaining appropriate risk controls.
Monitor market, partner, and regulatory trends to adjust underwriting approaches proactively.
Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and present regular reports on underwriting performance, risk trends, and process metrics.
Use insights to guide policy adjustments and strategic initiatives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with business development, operations, risk, and compliance teams to align underwriting activities with organizational goals.
Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding underwriting matters.
Requirements
Bachelor"s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
5 years of underwriting experience within the payments, merchant acquiring, or sponsor bank environment.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing underwriting or risk teams.
Strong analytical skills and ability to translate data into actionable insights.
Proven ability to identify, recommend, and implement process improvements.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; adept at relationship-building across teams.
Familiarity with underwriting technologies, data analysis tools, and CRM systems.
In-depth understanding of payments risk management, compliance, and card network requirements.
Proficiency with standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
