Responsibilities
- Load raw material into CNC lathe machines and ensure proper alignment and clamping.
- Operate one or multiple CNC lathes to perform turning, grooving, drilling, threading, facing, and other lathe-specific operations.
- Inspect first-run and in-process parts using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges, and other approved metrology tools.
- Verify and document machine settings, tool offsets, diameters, and critical dimensions.
- Listen for and identify unusual machine noises that may indicate tool wear, insert breakage, imbalance, or other lathe-specific issues.
- Measure and monitor diameters, surface finishes, thread quality, and other key characteristics required for lathe machining.
- Detect and report any deviation in part specifications, tool conditions, equipment behavior, or safety hazards immediately to a Supervisor.
- Perform basic troubleshooting, including adjusting tool wear offsets, replacing dull inserts, clearing chips, and resetting alarms (as trained).
- Maintain lathe equipment by checking coolant levels, clearing chip conveyors, and communicating maintenance needs.
- Keep accurate and timely production, scrap, and quality documentation.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas according to 5S and safety standards.
- Support communication between shifts by documenting irregularities, machine conditions, tooling needs, and continued work requirements.
- Actively support continuous improvement, company goals, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- 0–2 years of experience operating CNC lathe machines or similar machining equipment preferred.
- Understanding of basic lathe operations and cutting principles is a plus.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and thread gauges.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to follow standardized work instructions, quality checks, and safety procedures.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and comfortable in a fast-paced machining environment.
- Must be able to stand for long periods and maintain focus on detailed work.
Special Circumstances
- Must be available to work flexible hours or overtime as required by production needs.
- May be required to support other machining areas depending on business requirements.
Essential Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs consistently.
- Prolonged standing and repetitive movement required.
- Regular use of hands to handle parts, inserts, gauges, and controls.
- Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus—critical for quality inspection.
