CMM Operator

The Entry-Level CMM Operator is responsible for assisting with dimensional and visual inspection of manufactured components to ensure products meet customer specifications and company quality standards. This position operates Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) equipment using established programs and procedures and utilizes various precision measuring instruments.

This is an entry-level position designed for an individual who is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and interested in developing a career in manufacturing quality. Previous CMM experience is not required; training will be provided.

Essential Job Duties

· Operate CMM equipment using established programs and procedures.

· Properly position, align, and secure parts and fixtures for CMM inspection.

· Run established CMM programs and review inspection results.

· Measure finished parts to verify conformance to specifications.

· Learn to properly use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, depth micrometers, height gauges, and other quality gauges.

· Read and interpret CMM inspection reports.

· Accurately record and enter inspection results.

· Assist with first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.

· Identify measurements or conditions that do not meet specifications and notify appropriate Quality or Production personnel.

· Identify, document, and properly handle non-conforming product.

· Perform visual inspections and identify product defects.

· Assist Quality personnel with dimensional inspections for PPAPs and sample layouts as trained.

· Assist with gauge calibration activities and documentation as assigned.

· Follow established drawings, work instructions, control plans, and inspection procedures.

· Support Production personnel with basic inspection and measurement questions.

· Maintain accurate and unbiased inspection results.

· Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow 5S standards.

· Follow all company safety, quality, and work procedures.

· Perform other Quality-related duties as assigned.

These responsibilities are adapted from the inspection, measurement, calibration, non-conforming product, production support, and 5S responsibilities in the existing position.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED preferred.

· No previous CMM experience required.

· Manufacturing or CNC machining experience is preferred but not required.

· Quality inspection experience is a plus but not required.

· Basic math skills, including the ability to work with decimals.

· Basic computer and data-entry skills.

· Ability and willingness to learn how to read blueprints and manufacturing drawings.

· Ability and willingness to learn precision measuring equipment.

· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

· Good problem-solving and communication skills.

· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

· Ability to work independently after proper training.

· Ability to work effectively as part of the Quality and Production teams.

· Willingness to learn GD&T, SPC, PPAP, gauge R&R, and other quality concepts as the position develops.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods.

· Ability to frequently handle and inspect manufactured components.

· Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive inspection activities.

· Ability to safely lift and move parts required for inspection, with appropriate assistance or lifting equipment when necessary.

· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Skills

The following are preferred but not required for entry into the position:

· Previous manufacturing experience.

· Experience using micrometers, calipers, or other measuring equipment.

· Basic blueprint-reading experience.

· Familiarity with CNC machining.

· Familiarity with GD&T or SPC.

· Previous exposure to CMM equipment.

Training & Development

The Entry-Level CMM Operator will receive on-the-job training in:

· CMM operation and established CMM programs.

· Precision measurement techniques.

· Blueprint and drawing interpretation.

· CMM report interpretation.

· Quality inspection procedures.

· Identification and handling of non-conforming product.

· Basic GD&T concepts.

· PPAP and SPC fundamentals.

· Calibration procedures and documentation.

As proficiency and experience increase, the employee may be trained in more advanced CMM functions, programming, PPAP activities, capability studies, gauge R&R, and other quality functions.

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
