Summary
The Attendance Support Specialist plays a key role in promoting consistent attendance and improving student engagement. This position works collaboratively with staff, students, families, and community partners to identify and address barriers to attendance, support academic success, and reduce chronic absenteeism. The Specialist may also provide training or guidance to staff on effective attendance practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Attendance Data Monitoring and Analysis
- Monitor and analyze attendance data to identify trends and students at risk of chronic absenteeism.
- Prepare reports and share insights with relevant stakeholders.
- Use data to inform targeted, evidence-based interventions.
Student and Family Support
- Conduct outreach to students and families experiencing attendance challenges.
- Develop and implement individualized attendance improvement plans in collaboration with students, families, and staff.
- Provide direct support, which may include:
- Home visits or virtual check-ins
- Connecting families with community resources (e.g., healthcare, transportation, housing support)
- Facilitating communication between families and staff
- Assist in addressing barriers impacting attendance and engagement.
- Support attendance-related interventions in alignment with organizational policies.
- Participate in attendance or student support team meetings.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with educators, administrators, and support staff to promote a positive and supportive environment.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding attendance, progress, and interventions.
- Build partnerships with community organizations to expand available supports.
- Participate in meetings, conferences, and events related to student success and attendance.
Professional Development and Program Support
- Stay informed on best practices in attendance improvement and student support services.
- Assist in developing attendance-related procedures or initiatives.
- Provide or support training for staff on attendance strategies and interventions.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Experience working with children, youth, or families in an educational or community-based setting preferred.
- Background in education, social services, counseling, or a related field is preferred.
- School administrator experience is required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position requires frequent walking, standing, and movement between locations, as well as direct interaction with students, families, and staff in a variety of settings. Responsibilities may include meetings in school, office, community, or home environments and the ability to respond to urgent situations as needed. The work environment may involve exposure to varied conditions, occasional evening or weekend activities, and a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions.
