Senior HR Generalist

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior HR Generalist to provide hands-on HR support for a large, multi-shift manufacturing operation in the Grand Rapids area.

This role will serve as a key HR resource for hourly and salaried employees while partnering closely with supervisors, plant leadership, and the HR Manager. The position has a strong focus on employee relations, manufacturing recruiting, leave administration, compliance, performance management, and day-to-day HR operations.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a primary HR resource for hourly and salaried employees in a multi-shift manufacturing environment
• Manage employee relations matters, including investigations, policy violations, performance issues, corrective actions, and terminations
• Advise supervisors on performance management, disciplinary situations, documentation, and employee conversations
• Administer FMLA, ADA accommodations, short-term disability, and other employee leave processes
• Coordinate workers' compensation cases, work restrictions, and return-to-work activities
• Manage attendance administration, tracking, employee notifications, and escalation
• Support high-volume recruiting for manufacturing and production positions
• Maintain employee records, personnel changes, and HR transactions within the HRIS
• Ensure HR documentation and employee files are accurate and audit-ready
• Support I-9 documentation and federal and state employment compliance requirements
• Partner with plant leadership on policy interpretation, employee communications, engagement, and workplace issues
• Provide backup support for timekeeping, attendance, and related payroll matters
• Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor and provide HR support across shifts as needed

What We’re Looking For

• 5 years of well-rounded HR Generalist experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• 2 years of recruiting experience, ideally supporting high-volume manufacturing hiring or through a third-party recruiting firm focused on manufacturing
• Strong employee relations experience, including investigations, corrective actions, performance management, and terminations
• Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA/accommodations, workers' compensation, and employment law
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• Strong judgment, communication, and documentation skills
• Ability to independently manage sensitive and complex employee matters
