Staff Immigration Attorney
Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities
- Client Representation: Represent clients in family-based petitions, waivers, naturalization, humanitarian cases, removal defense, and appeals before USCIS, Department of State, EOIR, and the Board of Immigration Appeals
- Case Assessment & Strategy: Work closely with clients to assess immigration options, guide them through the legal process, and conduct comprehensive legal research to develop effective case strategies
- Legal Documentation: Draft and review immigration applications, petitions, appeals, and motions for relief with meticulous attention to detail
- Client Services: Provide informed legal advice and maintain strong client relationships while demonstrating cultural sensitivity when working with diverse clientele
- Professional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues to refine case strategies and contribute to a supportive team environment
- Continuing Education: Stay current on immigration laws, policies, and regulations to ensure the highest level of legal representation
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensing
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active bar membership in any state (Oregon bar membership preferred or willingness to obtain)
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in immigration law, including removal defense and family-based immigration
- Experience with high-volume caseloads while maintaining attention to detail and client-focused service
- Demonstrated experience handling various immigration applications including asylum, U visas, VAWA, adjustment of status, naturalization, and related immigration relief
Skills & Competencies
- Language: Fluent English and proficient in Spanish (preferred)
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex legal information clearly
- Professional Skills: Strong organizational abilities, time management, and multitasking capabilities
- Personal Qualities: Passion for immigration advocacy and human rights, cultural sensitivity, and ability to work effectively under pressure
- Initiative & Adaptability: Proactively identify process improvements, collaborate across teams, adapt to evolving needs, and contribute to firm growth.
Technical Knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of immigration law and USCIS processes
- Understanding of eligibility requirements for various immigration benefits including naturalization, adjustment of status, and family reunification
- Familiarity with standard office procedures and equipment
