Job Summary
The Junior Accountant supports the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and grant compliance tracking. The ideal candidate has a strong attention to detail, enjoys working with numbers, and has experience supporting accounting functions in a nonprofit environment. In the spirit of pay transparency, the salary range for this position is $65,000 – $72,000, if you are hired at IIBA, your final salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience, and geographic location. In addition to those factors, we believe in the

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Prepare and record journal entries, ensuring accuracy and proper coding.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
- Assist with monthly and year-end account reconciliations.
- Receive and verify expense reports; reconcile expenses and other financial reports with account balances and office records.
- Facilitate vendor payments, including verification of federal ID numbers, reviewing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies.
- Ensure outstanding obligations are credited upon payment; identify discount opportunities, and issue purchase order amendments or stop-payment orders as needed.
- Serve as the main contact for resolving accounts payable billing disputes.
- Record, verify, and distribute petty cash transactions.
- Prepare necessary month-end accruals.
- Provide ad hoc reports and documentation as needed.
- Ensure invoices are accurate, submitted on time, and properly communicated to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage assigned program’s accounts payable function, ensuring all expenses are accurate, allocable, allowable, and incurred in a timely manner.
- Track grant expenditures and allocations across multiple funding sources.
- Prepare financial reports for grants and contracts in coordination with the Finance Director and program staff.
- Ensure expenses are charged to appropriate accounts and funding sources in compliance with grant agreements.
- Prepare and submit grant invoices, including required documentation, and follow up on outstanding grant receivables.
- Record all transactions related to grant payments, donations, and payments against receivables.
- Assist in preparing supporting documentation for audits, monitoring visits, and funder reports.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly budget-to-actual reports.
- Support data collection and analysis for financial and program reporting.
- Collaborate with program managers to provide financial information and ensure grant compliance.
- Assist with the annual audit and 990 tax return preparation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the management team.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 1–2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
- Basic understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, including grant or fund accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the values and mission of IIBA.
- Experience with government or foundation grant compliance tracking.
- Familiarity with restricted and unrestricted fund management.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
