Job Overview

Be the Light. Help Shape the Next Generation.

Are you passionate about helping children and teenagers discover their faith? Do you love building relationships, creating meaningful experiences, and inspiring young people to make a difference in the world?

Immanuel Lutheran Church is looking for a Director of Youth and Family Ministry who is ready to help the next generation "Be the Light."

We aren't simply looking for someone to organize activities or fill a calendar. We're looking for a leader who understands that meaningful ministry begins with relationships—someone who can connect with children, encourage teenagers, equip parents, inspire volunteers, and help families experience God's love in everyday life.

If you're creative, energetic, compassionate, and excited about building a ministry where young people feel known, valued, and connected, we'd love to meet you!

About Immanuel Lutheran Church

Immanuel Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) located in Palm City, Florida.

Our mission is simple and powerful: Be the Light.

Inspired by Matthew 5:14–16, we believe we are called to reflect the love of Jesus Christ in our homes, congregation, community, and world.

Our ministry includes Immanuel Early Learning Center, providing a unique opportunity to build relationships with young families and nurture faith from the earliest years of life.

We value authentic relationships, meaningful worship, community service, and a church where every generation has a place to belong.

What You'll Do

As Director of Youth and Family Ministry, you will provide leadership, creativity, and direction for ministries serving children from birth through high school and their families.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and lead engaging children's, middle school, and high school ministries.
  • Plan and coordinate Sunday School, youth group, confirmation, Vacation Bible School, retreats, and other faith formation opportunities.
  • Build authentic relationships with children, teenagers, and their parents.
  • Equip and encourage parents to nurture faith at home.
  • Recruit, train, support, and celebrate volunteer leaders.
  • Create opportunities for children and youth to participate in worship, service, and congregational life.
  • Partner with Immanuel Early Learning Center to connect preschool families with the broader congregation.
  • Organize fellowship events, mission opportunities, and community outreach activities.
  • Develop creative ways to welcome new families and encourage their involvement.
  • Collaborate with the pastor, staff, and congregational leadership to advance Immanuel's mission.
  • Manage ministry communications, schedules, and budgets.

Who We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Has a growing, authentic Christian faith and a passion for sharing God's love.
  • Genuinely enjoys spending time with children, teenagers, and families.
  • Understands that relationships are the foundation of effective ministry.
  • Is creative, enthusiastic, approachable, and compassionate.
  • Can communicate biblical teachings in ways that are relevant and engaging.
  • Is comfortable leading groups, organizing events, and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Can inspire and empower volunteers rather than trying to do everything alone.
  • Works collaboratively and communicates effectively.
  • Values an inclusive, welcoming church community.
  • Is excited about helping young people discover how they can Be the Light in their schools, homes, and communities.

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in ministry, theology, education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in children's, youth, or family ministry.
  • Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers.
  • Familiarity with Lutheran theology and the ELCA.

Required:

  • Demonstrated commitment to Christian faith and ministry.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, youth, parents, and volunteers.
  • Willingness to work Sundays, occasional evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required background screening and child protection training.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and ministry of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Why Join Immanuel?

At Immanuel, you'll have the opportunity to do more than maintain existing programs. You'll help shape the future of youth and family ministry in a congregation that values relationships, creativity, and discipleship.

You'll enjoy:

  • A supportive and collaborative ministry team.
  • Opportunities to develop new ideas and ministry initiatives.
  • Meaningful connections with families through Immanuel Early Learning Center.
  • A congregation committed to investing in children and youth.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people.
  • The beautiful Treasure Coast of South Florida as your home.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit:

  • A current resume.
  • A cover letter explaining their interest in the position.
  • A brief description of their personal faith journey and philosophy of youth and family ministry.
  • Three professional references.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The position will remain open until filled.

Come help us raise up a generation that knows they are loved by God, understands their purpose, and is ready to Be the Light!

Immanuel Lutheran Church is committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for children, youth, families, staff, and volunteers.
